Tirzepatide (active ingredient used in Mounjaro® and Zepbound™) is a prescribed medication formulated specifically for weight loss and management. This medication is administered as a once week injection and works by mimicking the action of a hormone called GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite.
Tirzepatide is also a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. This means, in addition to mimicking the effects of GLP-1, it also mimics the effects of the GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) hormone. The combined action on both receptors provides additional benefits for weight loss.
By reducing feelings of hunger and increasing feelings of fullness, Tirzepatide injections make it easier to control food intake and resist overeating.
